In-studio lifestyle newborn sessions have a special place in my heart, they give such a sweet glimpse of those first few weeks with your tiny little newborn baby while maintaining a beautiful clean look for your portraits. For new parents and seasoned parents alike this newborn timeframe can fly by in the blink of an eye which makes it the perfect time to schedule an in-studio lifestyle newborn session.
Having a newborn session in-studio creates images that are simply beautiful. The clean nature of a studio means the focus is entirely on you and your little one. Picture the natural window light cascading over your baby's features as we capture their perfect little nose and toes, your family snuggling with your newest addition on a brightly lit fresh bed, or sweet moments captured against soft window curtains as you hold your tiny love.
The Herink family enjoyed snuggling their sweet little girl for their in-studio session at Hive House studio in downtown Stillwater, MN. We captured some sleepy moments and even got some photos of baby more alert looking at the camera - how stinking cute is she! They did an incredible job choosing outfits that blended with the light studio space while still giving personality. Maggie's dress is gorgeous, light, and airy, bringing a soft feminine texture to the images. Baby girl's soft pink onesie blends beautifully with mom's colors while her beige onesie adds a lovely texture to color and black and white images. Alex continues the bright theme of white with a soft gray pant creating visual balance.
What an In-Studio Lifestyle Newborn Session Actually Looks Like
If you have never booked an in-studio lifestyle newborn session, I want to walk you through what that looks like from start to finish.
We met at Hive House Studio in downtown Stillwater, MN for their portraits. This studio is on the third floor of the historic Isaac Staples Sawmill building and has a really cool mix of businesses - from The Staples Mill Antique Store, a Studio One Yoga location, all the way to Victoriano's pizza & more! Definitely a fun place to check out!
The Herink family got settled in the studio space while I walked around and finalized the game plan for the session. This Hive House has a nice selection of couches, colored and white walls, bedding, cushions & more. We started by taking photos of baby Cecelia sleeping on a swaddle blanket the family brought with them. This was the perfect time to get detail photos of baby's hands, feet, and facial features.
From there, we swung over to the windows and captured some really beautiful portraits of mom and baby standing and cuddling, mom and baby nose to nose, as well as some of mom seated on a boucle white couch holding baby Cece close to her chest. Then it was dad's turn for some snuggling portraits and a few of him holding baby Cece in a "football" grip as shown below - too cute! I love to get a few individuals of parents with their newborn baby to spotlight the individual connection that's beginning and growing during this special time.
After the individual portraits were done, baby Cecelia got hungry so we took a feeding break and also took this time to change her outfit. I love to capture a few sweet moments of mom's breastfeeding (or dad's bottle feeding) their newborn baby's. It's such a beautiful reminder of the love and tenderness of your new relationship and a just another way to showcase just how little they are. Then we transitioned over to full family portraits. We captured a mix of standing near the window and sitting and snuggling on the love seat. We photographed close up newborn family portraits and portraits taken from farther away in a more candid style.
My favorite part was when little Cece's tummy started gurgling after her feeding, we were right in the middle of some sweet full family photos and she let out a classic newborn toot. Mom and Dad both started laughing and that moment is now captured, memory and all (see below). These newborn sessions are all a little bit different, because I flow with what's coming up with your family. This helps create images that are a mix of classic, timeless portraits and candid, unique-to-you photos you'll want framed on the wall!
Booking an In-Studio Lifestyle Newborn Session
The best time to book your in-studio lifestyle newborn session is while you're still pregnant. I would recommend reaching out around the 30-34 week mark as this will give us time to touch base and schedule your design consultation before baby arrives. However, if you're ready to book your newborn session sooner, I would recommend reaching out as my schedule does fill up. I schedule a design consultation with all my clients before their session to ensure we have everything planned out. From studio location selection, to outfit ideas, to portrait styles and poses you prefer, and how you would like to enjoy your images. From there, we can get your session on the calendar and have peace of mind we're all ready to go when baby decides to make their debut.
I serve families throughout Hudson, New Richmond, Somerset, River Falls, Stillwater, Lake Elmo and the greater St. Croix Valley area.
