There is something incredibly special about bringing your newborn home for the first time. The sleepy snuggles, tiny fingers, the way they fit perfectly against your chest—it’s a season that feels both slow and impossibly fast.

And if the thought of packing up a brand-new baby, diaper bag, extra clothes, bottles, and everything else you might possibly need just to get out the door for newborn photos feels overwhelming, you are not alone.

That’s one of the reasons I love in-home lifestyle newborn sessions so much. Instead of asking you to leave the comfort of home, I come to you.

For families in Hudson, WI and the surrounding St. Croix Valley and Twin Cities area, an in-home newborn session is a relaxed, natural way to document your family exactly as you are in those early days—without the pressure of creating a perfectly styled or perfectly poised portrait session.

What Is an In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session?

Lifestyle newborn photography is centered around connection rather than posing every tiny detail.

Your home becomes the backdrop. Your nursery, your favorite chair, the bed where you spend those early mornings together, and the spaces where your family naturally gathers all become part of your story.

Rather than spending the entire session trying to get the “perfect” newborn photograph, we focus on the moments that actually matter: your baby curled up in your arms, your toddler meeting their new sibling, tiny toes tucked underneath a blanket, and the way you look at your baby when you think no one is watching.

The result is a collection of photographs that feels personal and authentic to your family.

And no, your house does not need to look like a magazine before I arrive.

What Happens During Your Newborn Session?

One of the biggest questions I hear from new parents is, “What if my baby cries the entire time?”

My answer is simple: that’s okay.

Newborn sessions are designed around your baby, not the other way around.

When I arrive at your home, we’ll take a few minutes to settle in and talk about how everyone is doing. There is no need to rush. If your baby needs to eat, we pause. If they need a diaper change, we pause. If they want to be held, we lean into that.

Some of the sweetest images happen during those in-between moments.

We’ll move naturally through your home, photographing your family together as well as smaller moments with each parent and baby. If you have older children, we’ll give them space to interact with their new sibling in a way that feels natural rather than forcing them into a pose.

And if your toddler has absolutely no interest in cooperating? We roll with it.

Toddlers don't suddenly become professional models because a photographer walked through the door. They might run around, hide, make silly faces, or need a snack halfway through. That's real life—and those personalities are part of what you'll want to remember.

Do I Need to Clean My House?

Please don't spend the night before your session deep-cleaning your entire house.

Seriously.

I know how easy it is to look around and see everything that needs to be picked up, organized, or cleaned before inviting a photographer into your home. But your newborn doesn't care if there are toys on the floor.

We'll simply look for the spaces with the best natural light and use those areas for your photographs. A little tidying here and there is plenty.

Your home doesn't have to be perfect. It just needs to be yours.

What Should We Wear?

For an in-home newborn session, I recommend soft, neutral clothing that feels comfortable and timeless. Think creams, warm whites, soft browns, muted greens, and other earthy tones that complement the natural feel of lifestyle newborn photography.

You don't need everyone to match.

Instead, we'll create a coordinated look that allows your family to feel like yourselves while keeping the photographs cohesive and timeless.

And if you're staring at your closet thinking, “I have absolutely no idea what we're going to wear,” don't worry. I'm here to help guide you.

Why Choose an In-Home Newborn Session?

Those first weeks with a new baby can feel like a blur.

You're tired. Your routines have completely changed. You're learning your baby's cues while trying to remember the last time you showered. If you have older children, you're also figuring out how to balance their needs with this enormous new transition.

It can be tempting to wait until life feels a little more put together before scheduling newborn photos.

But that's exactly why this season is worth documenting.

An in-home newborn session allows you to stay in your own space, surrounded by the things that already make your family feel comfortable. There is no commute, no studio waiting room, and no expectation that everyone needs to be perfectly happy and perfectly posed.

Just your family, together, in this fleeting little chapter.

How to Book Your Minnetonka Newborn Photography Session

If you're expecting a baby in Hudson, Somerset, New Richmond, and River Falls, as well as Stillwater, Lake Elmo, and the broader St. Croix Valley & Twin Cities area I recommend reaching out during the beginning of your third trimester to reserve your newborn session. We can choose a tentative date based on your due date and adjust once your baby arrives.

After you inquire, we'll connect about your family, what you're envisioning for your photographs, and what you can expect from the experience. I'll walk you through the details, answer your questions, and help you feel prepared before the session ever begins.

Once your session is booked, you can relax and focus on the much more important job of getting ready to meet your baby.

Then, when your little one arrives, we'll find a date that works beautifully for your family and I'll come to you.

If you're looking for a newborn photographer who will document this season in a relaxed, meaningful, and natural way, I'd love to hear from you.

Your baby will only be this little once. Your home will never feel quite like it does in these first few weeks. And these ordinary, beautiful moments deserve to be remembered.
